HUD delays new rules for affordable housing funds, again
What happened
The US Department of Housing and Urban Development has again postponed new rules for its HOME Investment Partnerships Program. This means local governments and housing developers will continue to operate under the old, less streamlined regulations for now.
Why it matters
The HOME program gives money to states and local governments to build and rehabilitate affordable housing. HUD tried to update these rules to make them simpler and faster to use. But the new rules keep getting delayed, which means the program remains stuck with older, more complex requirements. This slows down how quickly new affordable housing can be built or renovated.
The signal
Watch for the next announcement from HUD to see if a firm effective date is finally set, or if the new rules are withdrawn entirely.
