A Pennsylvania airport is so abandoned, the FAA is removing its airspace

The US aviation agency is removing a section of controlled airspace above Sunbury, Pennsylvania. This means pilots flying under instrument rules will no longer need to coordinate with air traffic control in that area.

Controlled airspace exists to keep planes apart, especially when pilots cannot see each other. When an airport closes, the airspace around it often becomes unnecessary. Removing it reduces the burden on air traffic controllers and simplifies flight paths for other aircraft.
