The US government will re-evaluate how it buys small business innovation

The US government has withdrawn a proposed rule that would have changed how it buys technology from small businesses. This means the existing rules for Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Technology Transfer (STTR) programs will remain in place for now.

The government buys a lot of its technology from small businesses through these programs. Changing the rules for these programs can shift who gets contracts and for what kind of innovation. This withdrawal means that any significant changes to how the government supports small business innovation will be delayed until a larger "Revolutionary FAR Overhaul" initiative is finalized.
