The Federal Railroad Administration wants railroads to submit accident reports electronically. This means railroads will have more time to complete certain forms and the agency will get rid of old, redundant rules.
For decades, railroads sent accident reports by mail or fax. This created delays and made it harder for the agency to track safety data. Moving to electronic filing means the agency can process information faster and potentially identify safety issues sooner.
Watch for a significant increase in the speed at which accident data is processed and published by the Federal Railroad Administration.
