Bus manufacturers no longer need to prove emergency exits work on a bus that no one makes anymore

US regulators are removing outdated requirements for bus emergency exits. This means manufacturers will no longer have to test new buses against rules designed for older bus models.

For decades, bus manufacturers had to meet safety standards based on bus designs from the 1960s. This made it harder to innovate or use modern materials because new designs still had to conform to old testing methods. This change removes a hidden cost for designing new types of buses.
