Connecticut runs out of summer flounder for the year
What happened
Connecticut's commercial fishing boats have caught all the summer flounder they are allowed for 2024. This means no more summer flounder can be landed in Connecticut until next year, unless another state transfers some of its quota.
Why it matters
Fishing quotas are a hard limit. When a state hits its limit, its commercial fishing industry stops for that species, regardless of demand or available fish. This can shift fishing activity and revenue to other states that still have quota remaining.
The signal
Watch for any quota transfers from other states to Connecticut, which would allow fishing to resume temporarily.
