A North Carolina heliport gets federal airspace protection for instrument landings

The Federal Aviation Administration proposes to expand controlled airspace around Tarboro, North Carolina. This change will allow helicopters to use instrument landing procedures at a new heliport, even in bad weather.

Heliports, especially those serving hospitals, need controlled airspace to operate safely in all conditions. This small change means emergency medical flights can now land at ECU Health Edgecombe Heliport when visibility is poor, which was not possible before. It makes the heliport more useful for patient transport.
