Two Chicago Harbor anchorage areas are officially removed from federal maps
What happened
The Coast Guard plans to remove two designated anchorage areas in Chicago Harbor. These areas, known as Anchorage D and Anchorage E, are no longer used by boats.
Why it matters
Federal maps still show these areas as places where boats can anchor, even though no one uses them. Removing them from the official record clears up old rules. This could simplify future planning for the Chicago waterfront.
The signal
Watch for any local development projects or changes in waterway usage that might have been blocked by the old anchorage designations.
