A small part of Galveston Bay is now off-limits for a fireworks show

The Coast Guard is temporarily closing an 840-foot area in Galveston Bay. This is to keep people and boats safe during a fireworks display near Kemah Boardwalk.

Every time there is a fireworks display over water, the Coast Guard has to issue a temporary safety zone. This is a routine administrative task that happens hundreds of times a year across the country. It ensures public safety for specific, short-term events.
