Cleveland's Cuyahoga River will close to most boats for eight months

The Coast Guard is creating a temporary restricted zone on a section of the Cuyahoga River in Cleveland, Ohio. This means most vessels cannot enter the area during construction hours for a bank stabilization project.

The Cuyahoga River is a major shipping route for industrial goods, especially iron ore and coal for steel mills. Closing a section, even temporarily, can disrupt supply chains that rely on river transport. This project aims to prevent landslides along the riverbank, which could cause much longer and more unpredictable closures in the future.
