The Coast Guard closes parts of the Delaware River for dredging

The Coast Guard is creating two temporary safety zones on the Delaware River near Marcus Hook, Pennsylvania. These zones will stop all vessel traffic and anchoring while maintenance dredging happens in the river.

This is a routine but necessary step for maintaining shipping lanes. Dredging keeps the river deep enough for large cargo ships, which is critical for ports and industrial facilities along the river. Without regular dredging, these waterways would become too shallow, restricting vessel access and impacting trade.
