The Gulf of Mexico is now officially the Gulf of America

The US Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration has changed the official name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America in its regulations. This means all official documents and maps from this agency will now use the new name.

This is a purely symbolic change. It does not alter any pipeline safety rules, environmental protections, or operational procedures. The name change is a direct order from the Executive branch, not a result of any public or scientific process.
