Mine safety rules will finally stop regulating equipment that no longer exists

The US Labor Department is removing rules about trolley use in mines. Trolleys have not been used in mines for years, replaced by conveyor belts and diesel or battery-powered vehicles.

This is a small, boring change that shows how slowly regulations adapt to reality. The rules were written for a technology that disappeared decades ago. Removing them clears out deadwood, but it also highlights how many other rules might still be on the books for things that no longer exist.
